Ingolstadt on the Danube

Located in the centre of Bavaria, Ingolstadt is an attractive, lively city, full of variety and is well worth a visit. The Danube city was once a Bavarian Duke`s residence, home to the first Bavarian University and a Bavarian fortress, today it is a modern centre for economy and science. The city offers a fascinating mixture of the historical, the traditional and the modern and we cordially invite you to explore the city of Ingolstadt.

Within the city walls magnificent historical treasures such as the Neues Schloss, the ´Maria de Victoria´ Congregation Hall with its famous Lepanto Monstrance, the cathedral “Zur Schönen Unserer Lieben Frau”, the Hohe Schule (the former university, active between 1472-1800), the Kreuztor (an old medieval gateway from 1385) and the Alte Anatomie (the old anatomical institute, now a museum dedicated to the history of medicine) are all waiting to be discovered.

Lovingly restored gabled houses, imposing gateways, lofty towers and impressive fortifications are all part of the charm of the Old Town. Enjoy Ingolstadt`s large selection of restaurants and shops as well as the fascinating markets which take place all year round.

Try some of the city’s many cultural activities for example, outstanding museums, internationally renowned concerts, attractive exhibitions, and gripping theatrical performances. These are only some of the possibilities that await you. Visiting the many festivals and other special events held throughout the year is also an option.

Walk around the “museum mobile” at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt and discover why Ingolstadt enjoys an international reputation as a hub of car manufacturing. Discover a unique shopping atmosphere with extra-special flair by visiting the “Ingolstadt Village” outlet shopping area.

Experience both regional and international culinary specialties as well as traditional Bavarian hospitality. Enjoy a cool Bavarian beer in one of our traditional beer gardens. Did you know that the Reinheitsgebot for beer was proclaimed in Ingolstadt on St. George’s Day in 1516?  It is both a milestone in the history of brewing and a worldwide standard for the production of beer.
